Constitution of Inidia starts by saying “We the people of India”

Democracy is of the people, for the people, and by the people.

If the above two considerations are true then every Indian must be and has to be equal.

Without touching on other issues relating to equality or otherwise, some of the facts as quoted by various sections of media and reports appearing, Indians are far from equal when it comes to hunger.

India State hunger index (ISHI) published by International Food policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has been released... According to the report, India’s Global Hunger Index (GHI) score is 23.7, which is 65th out of 84 countries. It ranks slightly above Bangladesh and below all other South Asian nations. Nigeria, Kenya, Cambodia, Rwanda, Pakistan etc have performed better and are placed better than India.

Report from ISHI is an eye opener, but, Govt has chosen not to comment on it, lest it is questioned for its actions.

More than 2000 children have died of hunger in Karnataka's Raichur district over the last 3 years. The government admits that around 4500 children are malnourished in Raichur. —express buzz 21Oct 11.

National Crime Records Bureau started recording farm suicide data — to 2, 56,913, the worst-ever recorded wave of suicides of this kind in human history.

With 21% of its population undernourished, nearly 44% of under-5 children underweight and 7% of them dying before they reach five years, India is firmly established among the world's most hunger-ridden countries. Today India has 213 million hungry and malnourished people by GHI estimates although the UN agency FAO puts the figure at around 230 million...TOI

The situation has been so alarming that the highest court in India had to intervene to instruct the Govt to distribute rotting food to the hungry.

Millions of tonnes of food grain rot on street and across railway tracks, but, in 64 yrs Govt hasn’t built enough storage space.

India has produced a record breaking volume-amongst highest in the world-still Indians go hungry.

You-me-us-we go to sleep hungry just because lack of political will.

You-me-us-we go to sleep hungry just because of stinking corruption at policy making stage.

We 121 crore have accepted the present situation in its totality.

Planning commission plans on basis of Rs 32/day formula whereas hunger deaths are on rise.

We are equally to blamed as much as the Govt.

Happy New Year. My best wishes.

2011 has just got over. 2012 is here.

2011 must have been good or bad for each one of us depending upon our Kundli.

For India, it was exceptionally a bad year. It was a year of scams, political instability, issues of governance, slide of Rs, crash of sensex, Chinese high handedness, Army Chief's age controversy, Ramdev episode, Anna agitation, Manipur blockade, and Shameful Lokpal debate in RS etc. None of this could make India proud.

2012 is going to be tough in every sense.

 UPA has to set its credibility which couldn't have been worse.

 BJP has to find its space of the main opposition party which usurped by Anna.

 Elections in five states could be real game changer, not so much for any party, but for this country where common man has been on receiving end, waiting for a change.

 Economist PM is at test before his name gets written in history books. (Hopefully)

 Inflation has to be contained.

 GDP is not making us proud.

 Industrial production is at its lowest.

 Forty plus Rajya Sabha seats will fall vacant.

 Vice President of India is due for retirement.

 President of India is due for retirement.

 Media might want to work on issues relating to its credibility.

 Media might want to relook at paid news issues.

 Media might, at least, may want to SEEM to be unbiased in its editorials. (Sic)

 Slow down in US and Euro zone crises old a cause of worry.

 India Rs to US $ parity may touch Rs 70.

 Fuel prices may touch Rs 100 / lt.

The list is just too long. One hopes India will stand strong and determined.

We might see more billionaires in India.

We might see more MPs becoming Crorepatis (Means aren't important).

2012 may just be the year of and for change, hopefully for the better.

PAPPU is still waiting for Roti-Kapada-Makaan.

EDUCATION CESS

It was 2004, when the Central Govt levied a 2% education cess on practically all the major central taxes. In the first year it was expected to yield about Rs5, 000-5,500 crores. Reportedly, an estimated amount of Rs 60,000 crores has been collected till now. (CAG figures differ from those of HRD ministry and those of Finance ministry, surprised?). The levy is meant to be spent on improving standards of primary education and for implementation of midday meal scheme in schools.

Those children who get admission in high end private schools surely never needed subsidy either for mid day meal or for tuition fees. Culture of heavy donations for admissions is no secret any more.

• Has the burden of education cess been effective?

• Has your maid's child been getting regular midday meal and books from Govt School?

• Has education cess not been an avoidable burden?

• Has the utilization of education cess been satisfactory?

• Has the number of school going children increased?

• Has the interest rate on education been eased?

• Has the Govt ever given a “package” to deserving students?

• Has there been any visible improvement in education system since 2004?

Unfortunately, there seems to be very little accountability in usage of funds and implementation of the much burdensome scheme. Two important ministries, Finance and HRD have varying explanation and varying figures.

Is it too premature to term it as a scam?

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi---Mahatma Gandhi---was the real hero who fought for us,for India for our freedom. He is the one who sacrificed his life for the nation.No one from his family-his children-his grand children-has ever claimed any position of power,directly or indirectly,in exchange for the sacrifice for the country.No one from his family came into politics just because the head of their family had sacrificed his life for the country.

Subhash Chandra Bose, was a true son of India, a dedicated freedom fighter and a soldier.His sacrifice for the freedom of the country has never been questionable.For reasons whatever,details of his alleged death have remained a mystery.There was a theory that he did not actually die in the air crash.His only daughter-Anita Bose Pfaff--has never claimed publicity, power or political space in Indian politics just because her father had made sacrifices for the country.

Sardar Vallabhai Patel was the iron man of India.If one goes by history books,had Nehru listened to him, J&K would have had a different scene.Sardar Patel's next of kin have been leading a quiet retired life away from political climate.None of his children,grand children have claimed political power, political space or even publicity.They have never complained on occasions when Sardar's birth or death anniversary has been forgotten by those holding power.
Lal Bahadur Shastri’s short tenure has been one of pride for all Indians.His children,though in politics, haven’t been fighting for position.

Nehru-Gandhis have been on the Indian political scene since independence and have been in power on their own for almost45 yrs,besides having led a coalition Govt for almost 7 yrs.

Historicaly,Nehru - Gandhis at different stages have suffered humiliation.
First, when Nehru miscalculated his friendship with Chinese resulting into a miserable defeat for India in'62.He was a sensitive person and it is common knowledge as to how he took his decision and defeat to heart.Consequences were there to see.
Second, When Indira Gandhi declared internal emergency in the country subsequent to Allahabad High court judgment unseating her.Consequences were there to see.

Third, When Rajeev Gandhi got caught into alleged Bofors corruption scandal. Consequences were there to see.

Dr Man Mohan Singh is the officially appointed PM of the country.Without getting into futile discussion, it is common knowledge that it is Sonia Gandhi and to some extent Rahul Gandhi who controls policy making and purse strings.It is obvious as who are congress members loyal to.
In the recent past, there have been allegations against congress on corruption, lack of governance, minority appeasement, regionalism, misuse of Govt machinery etc. Law will take its own course is a line no sane person buys any more.
Perhaps, it is time for congress to step aside for some time,get its act,organization together,let alleged charges of corruption be settled and come back to the national scene with full majority rather than come to power on clutches of opportunistic coalition partners.(Indira Gandhi waited till ’80)

It won't only benefit congress, it will benefit nation at large.

But, it is eventually up to Congress party to decide

BRANDS

Indians are being made brand conscious by using all possible avenues,advertising,promotions,free gifts etc.

Are we really getting what we need and what is expected of a brand?

Do we pay for a product?

Do we pay for a brand?

Do we pay for quality?

Can a particular brand "X" of Mineral water bottled in UP and Punjab be of same specifications and quality?The quality of water can never be same.

Can a branded hospital "Y"in Noida and Delhi give identical treatment?It is the Doctor and not the hospital name brand which is important.Two different surgeons can never operate similar.(my personal experience)

Can Cornatto ice cream cone be same in Mumbai as in the UK? Quality of milk can never be same.

Can a popular brand of sports wear made in India be identical to the same brand made and originated in France? The yarn quality can never be same.

Black Label Whisky bottled in any country other than Scotland can never be same.Water inputs matter.(India consumes more Scotch than its produced in Scotland is a separate issue)

Will Walmart label on a Chinese toy be treated as a branded product while the same Chinese toy available at Sadar Bazar will be "China Ka Maal"?

One product- Swiss chocolates are made only in Swiss.

Yet,there is another brand which never lets any one down-- Swiss bank.It will taste same, irrespective of the country one operates it from.Check with any politician,they travel enough..

While brands are getting promoted,there are those RICH who are fighting hard to survive despite earning Rs 33/day.

Is it a scam?

It is a season of unearthing scams.
Money, one can never have enough of. I need money, you need money, my domestic needs money, beggar at traffic signal needs money, neighbors driver needs money trader needs money, manufacturer needs money, poor need money—(LOANS TO US CANT TURN INTO NPAs). And above all and most important, the rich want (not need) money. Banks are always there to give money to the rich against a collateral gaurantee.

Is it a scam?
Technically, a loan starts to become NPA if it is not paid back from after 180 days or as per the terms laid down contractually.

As per RBI website, following are the NPAs as of 14th Nov.

1-Public Sector Banks----Rs 71047    Crores.
2-Nationalised Banks-----Rs 42907   Crores

Total 1+2……………… Rs  113954 Crores. Does this figure remind one of Telecom RAJA?

Then there are those loans which the borrowers being unable to pay up, apply for what is called--OTS—“One time settlement scheme” and “Compromise settlement”. In such cases, generally, banks waive accumulated interest amount, waive penalty and ease future installments of principle payments on concessional rate of interest to ensure recovery of principle amount. Such outstanding do not appear under the heads of NPA (how convenient)

Some banks try and off load part of their NPAs to "asset reconstruction companies" (ARCs) so as to show cleaner books. ....Such outstanding do not appear under the heads of NPA. (How convenient)

Ever heard of a collateral guarantee of an industrialist being invoked?

Ever heard of an Aircraft being taken over by bank?

Ever heard plant and machinery of a company being taken over by a bank?

Do similar rules apply to us, you, and me?

Will banks compromise on student loan of the needy and deserving students?

Will banks compromise on home loans of the needy?

Will banks compromise on Scooter loans of the needy?

Would a needy common man get similar benefits? Perhaps not, because we belong to a different category of India borrowers.
Govt refuses to continue subsidy on petrol, LPG, diesel and doesn't hesitate compromising financial stakes running into thousands of crores of Rs with the high and mighty.

During current fiscal year, industry has been given subsidies/concessions to the extent of app. Rs 6 Lakh crores.(yes,six lakh crores) and despite all this,the industrial growth has dropped to 1.91%.

Is it there a scam?

There goes a saying--It is the industry which falls sick, never the industrialist

It was only last week that a DIG rank officer in UP used a very apt expression,every thing is Fake in UP, referring to level of corruption.

That makes me think of various reports in the press about Fake materials being sold during festive season.In fact,there is so much Fake around us which makes it difficult to really separate one from the other.

Fake-Currency.

Fake-Cement.

Fake-Mawa--Mithai.

Fake-Milk,mixed with deadly inputs.

Fake-Flying licences,risking lives of thousands at 30000ft.

Fake-Vehicle driving licences.

Fake-Medicines.It is estimated that 30% medicines in India are fake.

Fake-Motor parts.It is to the extent that one gets to choose between genuine and fake officially.

Fake-Shampoo and various other cosmetics.

Fake-Most of branded clothings,shirts jeans etc.

Fake-Whisky(India seems to consume more Scotch than what is produced in Scotland)

Fake-The list could be endless.

However,is it possible for these cheats to be indulging in such dangerous acts,deadly mixtures,risking lives in air and roads,risking lives of children with spurios milk without the help,connivance and support of the Police and the politicians?

Think--answer is just there.Look around carefully

Oh,yes.How can one not mention some( not all )Fake Deshabhaktas who like to be called Politicians.

FAKE-FAKE-FAKE-FAKE.

But, Rs 1.76 lakh crores did not seem to be fake.

CAPTAIN

THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT FLYING

A few years back I used to fly between Delhi-Mumbai very often. I am amongst those few who are very scared in the flight. During one such flight, I built enough guts and requested the Captain and he allowed me into the cockpit. To my surprise, the Captain was having his breakfast and the co pilot was reading newspaper. I was explained various controls and was told that the plane was on auto pilot mode, hence there wasn't any need for them to hold the control physically. Since that flight,every time I get turbulence in any flight, what comes back to my mind is the scene where Captain and Co pilot having breakfast, resulting into bigger the scare. However, I cannot forget the words of the Captain while I was leaving the cockpit after thanking him.He said “YOU MUST TRUST THE CAPTAIN”. Most of us do.

THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT FLYING

In 2009, a new aviation company (more of pvt ltd) was formed under name and style of UPA II. Almost entire country invested huge stakes in it. Board of Directors “appointed” an honest man as its Captain and principle officer as the regulatory authority didn’t allow the promoter Director to take over as Captain.Stake holders were promised good returns within first 100 days.In the meantime,Captain managed to get one of his acquaintances from World bank/IMF to handle the financial issues.With a lot of fanfare,maiden flight took off and it wasn’t before it got caught into turbulence.Turbulence when captain couldn’t connect with his promoter Director due to faulty 2G communication lines,turbulence when pathetic condition of CWG stadia was visible from 10000ft, turbulence when dust of illegal mining was so visible from the cockpit, turbulence when Captain saw a 31 stories building on defense land meant for war widows, turbulence when he realized his own colleagues wouldn’t allow him a smooth flight, turbulence when he realized his on board staff consumed most of the food supplies meant for passengers, turbulence when he was told by his IMF acquaintance that henceforth concessional tickets will be sold only to those poor earning less than Rs 26/day, turbulence as his colleagues were caught playing game of chewing gums.Unable to come out of turbulence,Captain decided to make an emergency landing.

That was the time one of his colleagues was competing Aryabhatta in reinventing ZERO.

Before emergency touchdown,Captain made an announcement!YOU MUST TRUST YOUR CAPTAIN.

Company ordered an inquiry into causes of turbulence and the losses incurred.First submission Captain made was that “He wasn’t aware.” Most of the passengers have not agreed with his statement and have decided never to fly this airline again.They were never comfortable in the flight as there wasn't any coordination,thus risking lives of passengers who were all rich and earning more than Rs 32/day.However,they agree that “YOU MUST TRUST YOUR CAPTAIN” which they did (regretfully).

Having made an emergency landing,the estimated loss is reported to be appx Rs 1.75 Lakh Crores.

IS INCREASE JUSTIFIED?

Recently, Govt of Delhi has raised the registration fee for Diesel vehicles to 25 percent.

Intentions of the Govt may be good, but as usual, it doesn't seem to have done its home work. By raising the registration fee, will the consumption of Diesel reduce? Perhaps not, because those who purchase high priced diesel SUVs at prices ranging from Rs 25 lakh onwards to close to Rs 45 lakhs don't care about the price of diesel. May be, it will add to Govt's kitty to some extent.

In this process, Govt seems to have overlooked the diesel taxis who survive on day to day basis. Can the taxi owner who lives on daily collection and or is committed to EMIs afford another cost? As a consequence of price increase, the auto and bus fares are bound to increase by which only the poor man will get hit.

If raising revenue was the real intention, should Govt not have checked other areas of high diesel consumption?

Reportedly, following are the highest consuming areas

1...BTS-commonly known as Mobile Towers.

Mobile Towers need a 100 % power back up to ensure, should mobile services get cut off considering the awful power supply position in the country. Hypothetically, diesel for mobiles towers could be sold even at Rs 100 per liter. For all one cares, it may increase the call rate by a few paisas only. With the kind of mobile phone density in India, 2G alleged scam one would presume that Govt is unable to displease the telecoms lobby, especially when five State elections are not too far. I would not know the absolute numbers, but, for sure the extra revenue from mobile towers will be far greater than that of diesel vehicles additional registration fees. It is up to the Govt to first know what exactly does it want, which in this case seems hazy.

2.....Shopping Malls

We may not have bothered to actually use it as a case study, but, I won't be surprised if Shopping Malls are only second to mobile towers as far as diesel consumption is concerned. Can one imagine a shopping mall without electricity for even five minutes? A 100 % power back is a must in the malls. One would expect the Govt to have raised cost price of diesel to the Malls. Be it for the purpose of raising the revenue or be it a deterrent. Let’s not forget, the maintenance charges in malls vary from Rs 15 per sq ft onwards. Will another a few paisas really matter to them? However, general feeling is that under pressure from lobbyists, Govt won’t displease the shop owners in the malls. It May not be a coincidence,but,quite a few of the shop owners are politicians who are by themselves are decision makers and are beneficiaries .

In the meantime, few like me are still counting Zeros in 1.76 lakh crores.

Some are counting yesterday’s earning to ensure they are not above Rs 32/.

REDEFINING POVERTY-CONGRESS ISHTYLE

Planning Commission has recently submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court stating that those Indians living in Cities earning Rs 32 per day and those in rural areas earning more that Rs 26 per day do not fall in the category of the poor.

Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia is the Dy Chairman of the Planning commission while the Prime Minister of India is the Ex-Offico Chairman. Hence, when an affidavit was submitted to the Supreme Court, I would presume that it was in knowledge of the PM, and the Law minister.

This govt was voted to power on the slogan “Congress ka Haath Aam Admi Ke Sath”. Affidavit speaks volumes about the condition of Aam Aadmi.

Affidavit is a tight slap on the face of the common man.

Why is this govt so disconnected with the ground reality?

How can we expect them to know our plight when their official assets/wealth has increased by over 800% in last 3 yrs?

A beggar on a traffic signal earns much more than Rs 32/day.

Montek Singh feels that to be above poverty line, one has to spend Rs 1per day on medical care. He perhaps he isn’t aware that a tablet of Crocin is beyond the reach in that amount.

Disconnect is because when these VIPs fall sick, they have VIP wards assigned for them in AIIMS. Why should they care?Best treatment overseas is also at their command,absolutely free of cost.

Perhaps, Montek Singh needs to check the amount he has spent on overseas trips in last 2 yrs? Reportedly, the amount spent on his travel is close to Rs 2 Crores.

May be, Montek Singh can make us wise by identifying at least one product in the country which is available at Rs 32 per unit, be it cooking oil, wheat, Bajra, medicine any vegetable?

Montek Singh enjoys the status of a Minister. How can he understand our pain when he gets free housing, free medical, free electricity, foreign travel, subsidised food in parliament canteen?

Will Montek tell this country as to in which school or college can the poor get their children educated with an expense of Rs 1 per day? Even 40 yrs back, this amount for education was not sufficient.

They must understand and see for themselves as to the sub human conditions poor live in.

It is our misfortune that after 63 yrs, we are still struggling to avoid realty of the poor in India.

What we as common people don’t understand the hidden agenda by redefining poverty. Those who cross an income level of Rs 32 /day will automatically not get included in the list of those enjoying State or Central subsidy schemes. Be it ration, Medical treatment etc.

But, MPs are quite OK with enjoying subsidised food at tax payer’s account in the parliament canteen.

Where are we heading towards? Why is the Govt so insensitive towards aam aadmi? Let’s not forget, poorer you are, more vulnerable you are, more vulnerable you are, faster you fall in line, faster you fall in line, sharper you are the first target.

Take your pick.

MIRROR TO THE GOVERNMENT.

Results of 2009 LS elections did bring a sense of joy amongst people when Dr Man Mohan Singh took oath the second time over. I would feel that UPAII came to power not because of congress party but singularly on the honest face of Dr Man Mohan Singh.

Opinion of certain political and economic analysts is that UPA 1 sailed through because it had inherited a govt with low inflation rate communal harmony, a growing economy and was relatively corruption free.UPA II perhaps could not sustain it. That is where UPA II seems to have gone wrong. Arrogance of the ministers, insensitivity of the establishment and compulsions of UPA allies started to take over.

While he took oath in May 2009, PM announced a hundred days plan, which has fallen flat. Govt itself is avoiding talking of the plan.

No Indian is feeling safe---except for VIPs as they are covered with Z+---security. Last ten terror attacks have remained unsolved. General feeling of minority appeasement policy still persists. Reportedly, BSF has been instructed not to fire on infiltrators from Bangladesh. China has encircled India from all sides, including sea routes, and is present in POK. Proposed Communal Violence Bill is being seen as major threat to the basic unity of the country (bill is available on the net)

Coalition partners have their own agenda. Mamata Banerjee refused to accompany Prime Minister on his tour to Bangladesh as a protest against proposed Teesta water agreement, which PM had to cancel. NC,NCP, DMK each one is playing its own game. But, no partner will ever walk out.

Inflation is the lost game for the Govt. Prime Minister, Montek Singh Ahluwalia,Pranab Mukherjee in last two years have given innumerable dates to bring down inflation to 5%.It stands today in double digit at almost 10 %.Today, there isn’t a gap between price of Milk, Diesel and Aviation Fuel.

Tamil Nadu assembly has passed a resolution to press for relief to Rajeev Gandhi killers. Before the Govt could wake up to react, J&K assembly spoke for Afazal Guru. Within hours Punjab Govt wanted a similar equation for Khalistan leader Bhullar. All these three cases have been decided by SC.

Corruption is an issue. Not only us, but the world is taking note of Indian corruption. There isn’t any point in repeating those cases here once again. But for supervision of the Supreme Court, likes of Raja would not have been jail. Govt’s handling of Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare was a miserable failure.

Govt is in disarray. Govt has lost will to govern. Govt has lost the plot. Govt is insensitive. Govt is disconnected with ground realities. Govt is not serious about inflation. Govt has taken middle class for granted.

Govt needs to look into the mirror.

NEVER BOTHERED

We go about our lives in a routine matter that we forget to check basic issues concerning our daily life. Or is it our attitude ?It is a typical case of "NEVER BOTHERED"

Have we ever checked declaration of TFM---Total Fatty Matter---on the back side of the soap wrapper? TFM actually signifies the quality of the soap, higher the TFM higher will be the lather and naturally higher will be the cost. In fact, percentage of TFM is the quality level of the soap. Please check declaration on you soap wrapper. NEVER BOTHERED

We don't seem to notice price declaration on a product. The correct declaration is MRRP and not MRP.MRRP is maximum recommended retail price as it is loaded with highest rate of VAT or ST (Which is a state subject). E.g. A product in Delhi may have 4percent VAT and in Baroda it may attract 12.5percent.Hence "Recommended" price. It may help if we know the prevailing VAT rates to negotiate prices (AM I SOUNDING TOO MIDDLE CLASS?) so as to negotiate retail price. NEVER BOTHERED

Generally, Thursday is the weakest retail sale day. Check any retail Market, anywhere in the world; they report lowest footfalls on Thursdays. Reportedly, it is said to be so because-shopping- as it is termed-, is completed by Wednesday and Friday onwards, comes the weekend thus completing the weekly cycle. Interestingly most of the ladies nights in the clubs and restaurants, kitties parties and youngster's get together are on Thursdays. NEVER BOTHERED.

There is a standard set for packaged commodities. To allow the loot at the cost of the consumers, a provision has been introduced wherein the manufacturer declares on the packaging that it is selling a non standard pack. Check most of the Biscuits, Namkeen etc packs and get ready for the shock (i had written about this some time back in a different context).Quantity is reduced and prices get increased. NEVER BOTHERED

Tuesday is amongst the weakest day for airlines. One would normally travel on Mondays and Fridays. Most of the airlines’ sites offer greater discounts on Tuesdays NEVER BOTHERED.

Tea was always tea which was fresh, plucked. Then came –CTC which stands for—CUT, TURN,CURL-a mechanical process which cuts the leaves, turn them into a shape and curls the leaves. It is supposed to be a STRONG tea--CTC, doesn't it sound rocket science? Check the difference in leaves of normal tea and CTC leaves. NEVER BOTHERED.

Sometime back a famous Indian White goods manufacturer advertised it's refrigerators with PUF technology. It did catch up as it was a good punch line.PUF? Simply, POLYURETHANE FOAM. The refrigerators had a simple lining of Polyurethane foam. NEVER BOTHERED

If one notices, some of the abbreviated declarations are so misleading, but must be right legally. We need to be more vigilant, perhaps.

STREET VENDING

At times one is just lazy and that is the right time to go back memory lane to see if one has contributed to society, has any achievements on hand, has any incident which makes one happy. I did exactly that over the week-end.

Sometime back, I had taken responsibility of establishing the sales and marketing of a paper Tissue brand. For sales, I had adopted FMCG route, very routine matter which gets the desired results/sales. Brand building is a very serious exercise.What I was looking for was mass”VISIBILITY”,”IMPULSIVE” purchase and a “PLATFORM” to express.
Once I was driving down KG Marg in Delhi towards Connaught Place. At the traffic signal I saw a young boy of about 12-14 yrs old selling nose gas mask for Rs 5/pc and he would earn Rs 1/pc. That did it.

On my way back, I picked up the boy (Sanjay Jha) and gave him, on credit, 5 units of Face Tissues to be sold at that signal. It was agreed that he will get Rs 10/ unit on the units sold. Though the boy wasn’t confident, he agreed to the concept. I dropped him at the same signal with an understanding that in the next three days if he was unable to sell the product, he will come and return the goods. On same day, before 5 pm, he was sold out and had earned Rs 50/ as against Rs 7-10 for the day.

Next morning, he brought along his roommate for supplies. They chose to be on two different traffic signals. Between them, both earned Rs 170 for the day. Within one week, there were 19 different boys at different signals. Interestingly, they were all from Trans Jamuna area .Since it was becoming difficult to handle19 “SALESMEN” every morning; I got them together and formed sort of a Co-operative. They all divided their responsibilities, avoided competition, and identified traffic signals for each one.

This concept caught the attention of the marketing side of the media. BBC TV then had a weekly (Thursday) programme called” MONEY MATTERS”. The content provider to BBC went around city at the signals interviewing the “SALESMEN”.BBC interviewed me for 19 mints for a 30 mints programme and aired the concept.

Later, an agency picked up the concept and its success as case study.

Street Vending was thus born.

1-BBC gave me the “PLATFORM” to express.BBC also kept showing live product and salesmen interviews live.”SALESMEM” watching themselves live on TV was a sales booster.

2-Signal gave the opportunity for “IMPULSE” purchase. It takes less than 40 sec to complete one sale at the signal, yes just 40 seconds.

3-Boys holding on the product in hand gave me the” VISIBILITY”

Those in Delhi must have noticed the line of products now being sold at the traffic signals. All these products are the result of one initiative I took with Sanjay Jha—12-14 yrs old. The so called cooperative now has more than 100 “salesmen”

Some boys have shifted to Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Mumbai with the concept.

I am happy that I was able to contribute towards the society. I am happy that these boys have done very well economically.

Happiness and prosperity must be shared.

Certain incidents in everyone’s life leave an impression, a question, a doubt, or is it confusion?

Three real life incidents have left me wonder.

My wife along with her eight friends had gone to Vaishno Devi. Having reached the main entrance,all of them put their offerings in a marked cloth which was handed over to the priest.The priest handed over a bag back to them after Pooja, containing Prasad for eight of them in the same cloth in which the offering was given. After the ladies reached the hotel, my wife realised that her part of Prasad was missing from the bag. They had to leave for Delhi next morning. She announced to her friends that she would not return and stay back until she solves the mystery of the missing Prasad. When she got up in the morning, her packet containing the Prasad was on her bedside table. This is true Aap Beeti.
STILL WONDERING

Recently, we were in Kuala Lampur. For any one visiting KL, a visit to Twin Towers is a must. They sell a limited number of tickets, of which we weren’t aware, for which the “Q” gets into action early morning. By the time we reached, tickets were sold out and people were walking away, so were we. From nowhere, two gentlemen walked up to my wife and asked if we were looking for two tickets and handed those over to her. Before we could even thank them and pay them, they weren’t there. We have no idea who these two gentlemen were. This is true Aap Beeti.
STILL WONDERING

I was in Bologna, in Italy, it was November. The day I had to leave for London, it was snowing heavily and Milan airport was closed. My visa was expiring too. While I was confused and was talking to the reception desk, one gentleman asked me as to where would I be going. He offered to drive me to Lugarno, on Italy- Swiss border, which he did. He had a red coloured Fiat and all the four wheels had heavy chains around them to avoid skidding. He dropped me at the Railway station and I took the train to London. I still can’t figure out why this gentleman took the trouble to drop me all the way. We didn’t and even know each other’s names. This is true Aap Beeti.

These are true incidents which we have experienced.

Who were the people who came to help us?

Was it any divine intervention?

We are clueless, except that my wife feels,we must have done someone some good some time to deserve all this help from unknown people.

We have elections in India every year, Panchayat, Corporation, Bi-Elections, State assembly elections and General elections .In each of these elections ,what political parties and media(upon insistence of political party, perhaps) emphasise upon is the MINORITY VOTE, shamelessly though.

India is a Hindu majority state with 85% majority and 15 % minority status.

It is always been a cause of concern as to why do political parties chase 15% minority votes at the cost of 85% majority?

It is well known as to how do the Church influence politics.

It is well known as to how do the Muslim clergy influence politics.

But, if any Hindu religious organisation even talks for Hindus or supports a political party or has views on politics, we as a community get branded COMMUNAL by all those who chase minority voters. We have already been divided on the basis of cast, religion, region, language. It is more so as part of Govt's minority appeasement policy.

Unfortunately,we Hindus are not united. We don’t congregate at least once a week in a Temple.

Christians do so once in week at the Church.

Muslims are together once a week, during Namaaz at the Masjid.

Sikhs are together on Sundays at the Gurudwaras.

Such situation makes it easy for political parties to get minority vote’s en-masse. We may not accept, but, Religious influence does have an impact.

Hindus are divided.

Muslims are united.

Christians are increasing.

It is a bit surprising, but, Govt has no control over Muslim places or worship, Govt has no control over Church.Gurudwaras are not under the Govt control.But, all Hindu places of worship are undeer govt control/supervision.

We are the only country subsidising Haj pilgrimage but are comfortable taxing Amarnath Yatra.

The moral of the story is very clear. Perhaps, we need an iconic figure like some of the other communities have.

Kerala election results could be an eye opener.

Even after eyes open up, where is the spine and the vocal cord?

The incidents quoted here are a collection of various discussions we have had over the years while on sales calls and conferences. There is no way that I can authenticate these claims. They are interesting, anyway.

In early days, Colgate was fighting hard to increase its sales and attain a decent market share. Company had asked for suggestions. A team of Salesmen from the team suggested—“Increase the diameter of the opening for a greater flow” So much more will get on to the tooth brush. That did the trick.

Few years back, Vicks Vaporub Ad campaign seemed very effective. It showed mother applying Vicks on to child’s chest with Voice over –“ Thoda Aur Lagao”. Ad agency exploited Mother’s emotions quite well. After this campaign, the product balance sheet showed results.

Coke, during their advertising campaign always took on Pepsi. Hoardings screamed –“We are number one”. They were

To counter the campaign, Pepsi hoardings read –“We are number two and need your support”. That turned the tables and the equation.

At a regional office building in India, a directional board was put up which read---“Coke, 1^stFloor”.

Pepsi didn’t lose time putting up another board just next that of Coke---“Pepsi everywhere”.

Some punch lines could well be the USP of certain direct product Ads.. Like, a readymade garment company launched a series of ladies and gents ready-mades for summer—it read “Cottons have caught on”—sure they did.

Years back a company was selling tress which would give returns to the investor 25 yrs down the line—its campaign ran as “Money does grow on trees”

A popular Japanese car manufacturer devised a unique strategy.-Cars meant for Western markets had all screws moving in clockwise direction. All the care for Asia pacific had all screws moving in anti clockwise direction. This strategy had a great impact on their sale of spare parts and accessories.

We keep reading about scams on regular basis on scam a day phenomenon. There are issues which go unnoticed. Some of us must have experienced such uncomfortable situations with anguish.

CAUSE OF CONCERN—Authorized or otherwise, a number of parking lots have come up in each city which generates Lakhs of Rs per day. The last link in the chain of ownership is a politician.

CAUSE OF CONCERN— Unauthorized construction, residential and or commercial, is a common site and reality. The last link in chain of beneficiary is the politician.

CAUSE OF CONCERN—Every State CM has discretionary powers on land allotment. The last link in chain of beneficiary is the politician through his close relatives.

CAUSE OF CONCERN—NGOs are surreptitiously funded by political parties for ulterior motives. Last link in the chain is again a politician.

CAUSE OF CONCERN—Media is a major contributor in opinion forming process. Last link in chain is a politician in ownership pattern.

CAUSE OF CONCERN—Lawyers who fight cases for murderers, rapists, anti-nationals, money launderers become the last link in the chain by joining political parties.

Historical blunders that have changed the course of independent India's history and cast a dark shadow over its future. These costly mistakes will continue to haunt India for generations.

Kashmir Mess

There can be no better example of shooting one's own foot than India's clumsy handling of the Kashmir issue. It is a saga of naivety, blinkered vision and inept leadership.

Hari Singh was the reigning monarch of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947. He was vacillating when tribal marauders invaded Kashmir in October 1947, duly backed by the Pakistan army. Unable to counter them, Hari Singh appealed to India for assistance and agreed to accede to India. Indian forces blunted the invasion and re-conquered vast areas.

First, India erred by not insisting on unequivocal accession of the state to the Dominion of India and granted special status to it through Article 380 of the Constitution.

Secondly, when on the verge of evicting all invaders and recapturing the complete state, India halted operations on 1 January 1949 and appealed to the Security Council. It is the only case in known history wherein a country, when on the threshold of complete victory, has voluntarily forsaken it in the misplaced hope of winning admiration of the world community.

Thirdly and most shockingly, the Indian leadership made a highly unconstitutional offer of plebiscite in the UN.

Forty percent area of the state continues to be under Pakistan's control, providing it a strategic land route to China through the Karakoram ranges. As a fall out of the unresolved dispute, India and Pakistan have fought numerous wars and skirmishes with no solution in sight.

Worse, the local politicians are holding India to ransom by playing the Pak card. Kashmir issue is a self-created cancerous furuncle that defies all medications and continues to bleed the country.

Every successive Govt-Congress in 47 yrs of central rule-has not been serious about solving Kashmir problem just to keep minority vote bank alive.

Appeasement policy still goes on and on.............

1----Sensex

2---GDP.

We are aspiring to be a super power by year 2020.

What makes is a country a super power?

The PEOPLE.

How can one expect the people to add to our aspirations of being a super power when they are hungry?

India has been ranked 67 much lower than its neighbours- China, Pakistan and Sri Lanka

A committee on food management was constituted in 2005 to consider revision of the rates and the service.

The food prices in the Parliament canteen are obviously subsidised.

Who subsidises it? You do, I do.

These are the same set of selfish,corrupt politicians who object to a poor man getting subsidy on LPG and Diesel, but show no concern about the subsidies they enjoy.

We subsidise their housing.

We subsidise their electricity bills.

We subsidise their telephone bills.

We subsidise their petrol bills.

We subsidise their and their family air travel.

BUT, they wont allow subsidy on Diesel and LPG.

Recently, in East Delhi a building collapsed as it was “illegal”. How can a normal Indian citizen accept a passing remark by the Govt. on a residential building of 7 floors “illegal”? There is so much happening which is termed illegal by the Govt without any explanation on the reasons and circumstances which have resulted into illegal actions under the very nose of the establishment. Is there any explanation on few of the following “illegals?”

How can we accept ADARSH going to 31 floors while sanctioned was for only 7?Media exposed it.

How can we accept illegal Bangladeshis? Isn't the border secured? Why is the state blind to this?

How can we accept state declaring cell towers illegal? Why weren't such towers demolished while they were being erected?

How can we accept 38 buildings in a row illegal in East Delhi? 38 buildings would have taken few years to build. Where were the police & corporation while the buildings were being constructed?

How can we accept Hundreds of Pakistanis overstaying illegally and have gone missing? Why are the police not performing? Why is Home ministry quiet? Where are the intelligence agencies?

How can we accept a statement from state about illegal mining? Why are Karnataka, Andhra and Centre so quiet?

How can we accept millions of tons of food grains having been exported illegally to neighbouring countries? Food grains were meant for people under BPL. Scam could be in Lakhs of Crores.

How can we accept illegal export of Iron ore? Why do customs & police look other side while illegal export takes place? On rough estimate, value is above Rs 3000 crores. Where is the money?

How can we accept train tickets being sold illegally while booking office has SOLD OUT board?

How can we accept diesel being mixed with petrol illegally?

How can we accept a statement that money gets transferred illegally by Hawala? Is the intelligence agency not aware of Hawala operators?

How can we accept an operating gang in UP issuing illegal Degrees and mark sheets?

How can we accept water shortage in Delhi while illegal water tankers are sold openly?

How can we accept a situation where not one politician has been convicted on corruption charges?

It is unlikely that all this---and much more--- is happening without the connivance of the Police, Local MLA-MP, land, water mafia, fixers and brokers.

How can we accept zero governance and accountability?

Those who have worked or are working with an Indian company (Most Indian companies are family owned) might find this as an interesting comparison. Most political parties work almost like a privately owned, privately held company. You might agree with me on some of the comparisons.

PARTY------Has a High Command.

COMPANY—Has a, CMD, Chairman &Managing Director.

PARTY------Has Chief Ministers (mostly appointed).

COMPANY—Has branch managers in States (definitely appointed).

PARTY—---Always has a loyal to take blame for High Command failures.

COMPANY—Always has a loyal to take blame for CMD’s wrong decisions.

PARTY------Has a core committee to take decisions which have to be vetted by high command.

COMPANY-Has a management committee which takes decisions, but have to be vetted by CMD

PARTY—---Has a legal cell as support staff. (Greater the illegalities, bigger the dept)

PARTY—----Collects black money to remain in power.

COMPANY—Gives black money for those who are in power.

Indian Doctors are being invited to the USA because of their capability.

Indian scientists are almost managing NASA, upon invitation and capability.

India is justified availing services of trained pilots—experts in car manufacturers—bankers—engineers in specialised areas etc.

Adnan Saami came to India, reportedly on work permit and has stayed back for years together.He is alleged to have bought immovable properties in Mumbai outside the provisions of RBI. Reportedly, he has gifted the property to his second wife, who herself is not an Indian citizen (she is from the Middle East).There must have been some validity of the work permit? What happens if his fourth marriage is to an Indian citizen? What is our policy?

Katrina Kaif is on work permit in India. Do we need imported actors for Indian films--largest film industry in the world--who finally decide not to move out and have best of both?Is she committing to producers within the work permit validity? What if her other seven sisters also decide to act in Hindi movies? Will they get work permits? What if she marries an India citizen? What is our policy?

Shakeel from Pakistan came to India to participate in some comedy show. Since when has India run short of comedians? (THERE ARE THOUSANDS IN POLITICS)What is our policy?

In the recent past, India has seen some unprecedented incidents of the levels never seen before.

The power drama in Karnataka was an example of the level to which Indian democracy has fallen to. It is no point blaming one party or the other or the speaker or the governor. None of them behaved with any dignity or respect for rule of law. Reportedly, each MLA had a price tag of Rs 25 crores. Nothing could have shamed Karnataka state more than this episode.

CWG scam has been a point of discussions in the international media. Committee has been formed by the PM to investigate the scam. A lot of people say that this committee will help more to escape rather than pin point the guilty as we have started to lose faith in the system of governance.Rs 70, 000 crores,100 times greater than the budget, were spent without any one even asking a simple question--ON WHAT AND WHY?How was the money disbursed if it was not budgeted for?What purpose will the committee will serve is any one's guess.

It was shocking when Starnews ran a conversation amongst congressmen wanting to collect a few crores of Rs for a rally in Maharashtra. Congress, on expected lines have denied it, but it was on national television for all of us to see.”Guilty, if any must be punished" is so stero typed from congress that one would switch channel..

So much has been written about Telecom scam, Sugar scam, Defence deals, illegal mining and so on, but it is a committee after committee after committee with hardly anyone being charged unless he/she becomes politically irrelevant.

Corruption, lack of governance and non accountability of the Govt. have become part of an Indian's life.

It seems we Indians have worked over time to prove Churchill right.

POWER CENTRES

India, in the last 60 yrs has had govt with varying political strength. In all the cases, the head of the govt, Prime Minister, has been peoples representative from Lok Sabha.

THE PRIME MINISTER

This Government is headed by Dr Manmohan Singh who is not from Lok Sabha and has to manage with support of over 20 parties who have their own political agenda. There are instances when even congress members have embarrassed their own party colleagues/ministers. Recent case is that of Kapil Sibal having been embarrassed by congress member on the education bill. Jairam Ramesh taking on PMO regarding projects in N-E. Ministers not belonging to congress don’t follow the Prime Minister and his policies or directions. If he had effective control, alleged corruption running into few lakh crores may not have happened (Telecom-Sugar-Satyam-CWG etc).This seems a result of him being an “appointed” Prime Minister rather than being “elected”. It shows Prime Minister as a weak authority, thus encouraging elements from within congress to create a separate power centre.

NATIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL.

This is being headed by Mrs Sonia Gandhi. It being “advisory” and “national” says a lot about its responsibilities and functions. At times NAC is not in same line of thinking as the govt lead by Dr Manmohan singh. Ministers of supporting parties may not be actually following the guidelines of NAC.A recent disagreement by Sharad Pawar on a suggestion by the NAC on food policy is an example of complete disconnect resulting into non cooperation between Govt, NAC and various supporting parties. There are congressmen who would rather be with power centre at 10 Janpath than at 7 RCR.

IN ALL THIS, A YOUNG DEVELOPING POLITICIAN IN THE MAKING HAS TAKEN CENTRE STAGE WHICH HAS CREATED ANOTHER STRONG POWER CENTRE.

RAHUL GANDHI--- CONG GEN SECRETARY.

A single statement from him does change the govt policy and of course the polity. He chooses the subject on whom he wants to speak. He has emerged as a strong power centre. Every statement of his gets discussed and focused upon. His views on Vedanta are well known, His statement that if a member of Gandhi family was in power, Babri would not have been demolished, his statement on Bangladesh creation was Gandhi family decision , his statement that Omar is doing a tough job and needs support, his statement equating RSS to SIMI are all very significant. But for his support, Omar would have been shown the door long back. Each of his action or statement gets major press coverage, but, never is criticised. Of the 543 MPs, only his tours are an event for the media, his breaking of security cordon is news; his getting into local train is news, his visits to Dalit homes is news. He along with his advisers and” young brigade” is another power centre. Media calls him YUVRAJ.

With three different power centres, what is message for this democratic country?

HINDU RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS.

The constitution of India provides for following and practicing one's religion (or not following any) as per one’s own wish.

Thank God for that.

What is very intriguing to me is as to why does the Govt controls institutions of Hindu religion?

Sikh Gurudwaras are under direct control of SGPC as per Sikh Gurudwaras Act 1925 and the Govt of India has no control, except for monitoring the inflow of foreign funds.

Church in India is not under any control of govt of and it is controlled by a trust. In 1927, Parliament passed a bill --India Church Act and India Church Measures which created autonomous Church of India, Burma, Ceylon. Perhaps, Govt monitors the inflow of foreign funds.

Masjids in India are defiantly not under govt control. I do not have technical details, but considering the appeasement policies, its mind set since independence, even if Govt had the control, it may have willingly surrendered its claim to keep Muslims on their side and happy.

Why, in such case, does Govt have control on Indian religious institutions, like Siddhivinayak Temple Mumbai, TTD in Tirumala (TIRUPATI) etc and so many more institutions?

Are we Hindus too vulnerable?

Are the Hindus too tolerant?

Are Hindu religious institutions flushed with funds?

Are they wanting to control the majority sentiments?

Are the Hindus in agreement with such arrangement?

Are the Hindus divided, hence advantage political/Govt control?

My Christian, Muslim and Sikh friends and readers may like to correct any statement here if it is found to be incorrect.

POWER OF YOUNGSTERS / STUDENTS

We are a nation with highest number of young population .In the last couple of years, there is a lot of focus on involvement of young blood in politics. Stastically, more than 50% of Indians comprise youngsters, hence we can presume the figure to be around 55 crores. It will be only fair to identify the category to which the young population belongs.

CATEGORY 1-About 25 crore belong to the category who earn less than Rs 20/day. Those with empty stomach and unclothed bodies can vote for only those who pay them for votes. They don’t belong to any party, any religion or caste. They belong to the poor class, hence can’t form an opinion.

CATEGORY 2-These are those youngsters (students or otherwise) belonging to either political or business families. For them politics is out of choice (dynastic) as a career or need to further business interests. They run the govt, they fund the govt, and they help form the govt.

CATEGORY 3-These are the ones who actually have the time and inclination to read, compare, express, analyse and change the face of the nation. This category consists of students, employed, unemployed but most of them are focused and cannot be taken lightly.

Two recent incidents will confirm to my statement.

Recently, Chairman Planning commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia was in Kolkata addressing students. One would have expected students to interact with him on serious issues (from politician’s point of view).What turned out was an anti climax. Students were angry about inflation and perhaps could not get a satisfactory reply from him. Rotten eggs and tomatoes were thrown at him and he had to be whisked away by security staff. WHY? Well more reason than one—as chairman of planning commission, for the last 15 months, he has been predicting various dates for inflation to come down, which hasn’t happened and the other reason being his closeness to PM. So, inflation, governance, accountability are issues with the students and they can express with anger.

Last week, Delhi University Students Union elections were held. DUSU has been in control of congress‘s NSUI for the last 12 yrs. It is rumoured that this time the candidates were handpicked by Rahul Gandhi. Congress may want to underplay this defeat but it may be a setback, especially when congress is on students membership drive. Delhi students have expressed their anger and sent a strong msg about inflation, corruption in CWG. Inflation, corruption, governance are issues with students and they can express anger.

In the coming years, it is the category 3 youngsters, opinion formers, educated, prospective leaders, who will decide the fate and face of this nation as they don’t need sermons’, caste divide, region divide and religion fuel. They will bridge the gap between India and Bharat.

ADVERTISEMENTS, FOR WHOM?

Very often, and very often, we do see release of advertisements by the govt in most of the newspapers be it regional or national papers. I have been able to outline three different kinds of advertisements. Basic principle of advt is a target audience

1—Ones released in memory of the great heroes. Recent example is the one released on Rajiv Gandhi’s anniversary. The cost is said to be around Rs 300 crores. Each one of us may have an opinion of him, but he was the PM of the country. They ensure that a photograph of the PM along with other ministers is prominently placed. The ministry which releases the advertisement ensures that the photograph of the minister in charge is placed next to the PM and other VIPs. Certain VVIPs cannot be ignored. Such advertisements could be accepted. This category of ad has a target audience

2---Ones released as a piece of information to the general public and for benefit of every section of society, like the dates for polio drops. They ensure that a photograph of the CM, PM and all other possible ministers is prominently placed. Certain VVIPs cannot be ignored. Such advertisements are good and accepted. This category has a target audience.

3---Ones that are being released—God knows for whom and for what purpose. I would refer to an ad in the HT 29/08-Workshops on Designing and Implementing CITIZEN’S/CLIENT’S CHARTER & GRIEVANCE REDRESS MECHANISM. The advt carries a photograph of the PM and the minister Chavan.—

Ref to an advt HT 31/08 Awards to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises. This advt carries photograph of the President, Prime minister, Chairperson KVIC, Sonia Gandhi and a minister in charge. These two are only examples. These ads do not convey any message in public interest, the venues mentioned here are not open to public, volunteers will not be a part o the discussions, there is no public participation.

Who is the target audience?

What is the purpose of these advertisements? It is tax payer’s money being spent on unproductive issues. Some sycophants may be at their best trying to please those in power .It may also be an opportunity to keep the media on the right side of the powers. Is it?

It is estimated that govt spends over Rs 10,000 crores / year on such advertisements.

As per the industry norms, legally, the advertising agency is entitled to a 15% commission. In this case, the commission amount works out to be about Rs 1500 crores. No one needs to be a MBA to understand as to what COULD be happening to Rs 1500 crores

Your guess is as good as mine.

Dr Manmohan Singh,

Honourable,Prime Minister,

In 2004, after,” Vajpayee govt” was voted out and you took over the challenge of India’s governance, eyebrows were raised and finally country settled to one of the two remarks (1) A historical accident (2) Divine intervention. I believed in the latter. I still do.

AAM AADMI--PAPPU was happy to see you as we remember you brought back the gold which was pledged by “Chandrasekhar Govt”, you brought about end of inspector raj, you started the process of liberalisation, a greater financial discipline was brought in, and you were trying to bring in governance and of course your level of honesty and integrity.

From the point of view of PAPPU, regretfully, he feels let down. PAPPU only wants the basics -FOOD-SHELTER-HEALTHCARE.-64 yrs is too long a wait.

PAPPU has no interest, nor bothered, nor concerned, nor understands GDP, SENSEX, NIFTY, FDI, WPI INDEX, NUKE DEAL, CIVIL NUKE LIABILITY and some don’t even know the expanded form of these abbreviations.

PAPPU is not concerned about embarrassment to UPA by RAJA, PAWAR, MAMATA, PATEL, ALIGIRI KALMADI,SHIELA DIXIT,—KASHMIR SITUAION, MAOISTS-NAXALS-MANIPUR,MPs SALARY.

NCAER report states, Indian spends, per capita, Rs 370/month on food, i.e. Rs11.94p/day for three meals. Just for comparison, it is less than price (Rs 12/bottle) of one bottle of mineral water often seen on tables/dais of meetings of political parties.

NCAER report says, per capita, an Indian spends Rs 37/month on health care—which is less than the cost of one Crocin tab /day. VIPs get life time 5 star medical treatment for free in India or overseas.

INFLATION is killing.Highest in 63 yrs- Planning commission, FIMIN and PMO have announced so many dates for inflation to come down that it is more like a jigsaw puzzle .PAPPU does not want to know inflation in %, he wants MEHNGAI to come down. Food grains are rotting due to lack of space, but PAPPU is starving while Rats and Monkeys are on a feast.

Can any economist, economic advisor, CA, cost accountant tell PAPPU, as to how can a couple with two children and incomes of Rs 50000/month fulfil its commitments (WITHOUT BEING CORRUPT)?

SUBSIDY on LPG used in PAPPU’s kitchen has been withdrawn. But, kitchen in Parliament house gets subsidy--TV channel showed the price of a plate of chicken curry at Rs 26.50p for MPs whereas; raw chicken in the market is @ Rs 280/kg.

CORRUPTION is shamelessly visible all over. “law will take its own course”. But, the truth is well known. Every morning PAPPU gets up to read a new scam with amount running into crores, thankfully he doesn’t know of number of zeros in a crore. Why won’t PAPPU become corrupt? He may.

HOUSES, built by state for the poor, allegedly, get usurped by the politicians under “CHIEF MINISTER DISCRETIONAY QUOTA “Sir, Where should the poor stay?

It seems, time has come to wield the stick without worrying about consequences.

People must not lose faith in Govt and democracy.

Sir, you are known for your honesty, integrity, national commitment. When the history gets written, PAPPU would hate to see any negatives when history of “Dr Manmohan Singh Govt”is written.

It is the winning side which writes history.

We are lucky that we are living in a democratic country.

Perhaps, we are too lazy, have a laid back attitude and are diseased with chalta hai attitude. May be we are justified in blaming the system for all the ills, but we must ask ourselves as to why don’t we raise our voice and make government accountable for the policies-actions they formulate. Let us not forget, those in Delhi have been voted in by us to GOVERN, not rule, and be accountable. We are indifferent towards the missing links, and are being taken for granted.

There has to be accountability by the politician.

ACCOUNTABLE?-NCAER report says one Indian spends Rs 36/ on health care per month,which cant buy one Crocin tab/day. VIPs get free treatment.

ACCOUNTABLE?-Govt spent Rs 2.62 crores buying generator sets for schools, but “forgot” to install those while warranty period has expired. Gensets are still lying unattended.

ACCOUNTABLE?-DU north campus has 200 students in MA English class with seating arrangements for only 120.Students keep standing while class is on.

ACCOUNTABLE?-A junior staff taking bribe of Rs 300 gets a sack and VIP misappropriating 300 crores+ faces unending enquiry and goes scot free.

ACCOUNTABLE?-Rs 17000 crores worth food grains rot outside govt warehouse due to lack of storage space while poor die of hunger. Parliament canteen gives subsidised food to MPs.

ACCOUNTABLE?-PFI threatens to make Kerala a Muslim state, Assam has Bangladeshis walking in and being used as Muslim vote banks, Srinagar burns while govt and media spark Hindu terror scare.

ACCOUNTABLE?-Illegal mining is flourishing in Karnataka, AP, Haryana with political connivance while illegal exports are flourishing.

ACCOUNTABLE?-We play Dalit politics, caste politics, religious politics, minority politics, region politics, state politics and still have unrest in most of states.

ACCOUNTABLE?-Govt’s own report suggests that 30% of medicines in the market are spurious.

ACCOUNTABLE?-Houses meant for the poor get allotted to favourites across party lines under Chief Minister’s Discretionary Quota Scheme.

ACCOUNTABLE?-The number of cases pending in the courts will take more than 300yrs to dispose of

ACCOUNTABLE?-Soldiers posted at Siachen are being fed with food packs which have expired 28 months back. These soldiers guard Indian Territory.

Who should be accountable for CWG mess? By the time the games get over, everything would have been forgotten and “settled”

It is time that we started asking questions, we might get some answers.

PACKAGES.

IT HAPPENS ONLY IN INDIA.

We have heard of medical package.

We have heard of travel package.

We have heard of salary package.

Has anyone heard of cremation package?

My sister-in-law passed away suddenly last week.

May her soul rest in peace.

The day after her death, we had to perform the last rites as per our customs and contacted the cremation ground management for arrangements.We wanted to take our family pundit besides other important inputs.

What we were informed was that, --- irrespective of the fact that we will take our family pundit and other inputs; we will have to pay for the complete cremation “package”.

WE DID

Is it part of globalisation?

Is it part of loot which is prevalent around us?

Is it possible for poor to pay “package” rates for cremation?

Is it possible that the govt is not a party to this?

Govt, over the last few years has made living very difficult. Why is it making dying so expensive and difficult? For God’s sake, please spare the cremation grounds.

CATCH ME...Tried getting your house registered? BRIBE.

CATCH ME...Tried getting service tax/vat assessed? BRIBE.

CATCH ME...Tried getting a FIR registered at police station? BRIBE.

CATCH ME...Tried ever getting away from a traffic ticket? BRIBE.

CATCH ME...Tried getting a water connection? BRIBE.

We are a Nuke state, we became computer experts, and we produce the best Doctors, Engineers and specialists in various fields. We are attaining a high growth rate and are on our way to be a super power. We are the largest Democracy in the world. Need to analyse.

PROUD-We are a Nuclear power

SORRY-We cannot provide electric c power to Pappu.

PROUD-We have a growth rate of about 8.50%

SORRY-We cannot provide two meals a day to about 83 crore Indians.

PROUD-We sell NANO car at Rs 1lakh

SORRY-We buy DAAL at Rs 100/kg.

PROUD-We have the most disciplined Armed Forces in the world.

SORRY-We don’t respect and care for our Armed Forces.

PROUD-We have fought back any aggression.

SORRY-We have failed miserably on diplomatic front.

PROUD-We are largest functional democracy.

PROUD-Gandhi (Mahatma) visualised India as a castles society.

SORRY-Govt is dividing us on caste basis for political gains.

CONSUMER IS (not)THE KING

It was about 12-18 months back that India was going through a slow down/ recession.

All sectors of the industry, Airlines, Telecom, Manufacturing, and Exports etc approached the govt for relief, and they all got----naturally...

It was time for lobbies to get into action and also for netas and babudom to make a bit of pocket money. Why not-consumer is NOT the king.

During the slow down period, some companies came up with a unique idea of making money, making a fool of us and they succeeded in doing both.

Under the weights and measures (packaged commodities) act, company /manufacturer has to declare the STANDARD net weight of the content on the pack. But, some genius came up with a profitable idea.

Instead of packing the standard wt in the packs, what they did was to reduce the content to NON STANDARD wt and give a declaration to that effect on the pack, which reads as follows.;

“NON STANDARD SIZE UNDER THE STANDARDS OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES (packaged commodities) RULES 1977.

The above declaration justified REDUCING the wt and selling non standard wt.

Britannia Marie.Wt reduced to 166gms.PKD-23/05/10-LOT NO 23394

Parle Kreams .Wt reduced to 80gms.Pack PKD-5/10-BATCH PN 5

HIPPO. Wt reduced to 85 gms- PKD-17/04/10-LOT-DE107220.

Why have an act on standard packing if it can be beaten up by just a declaration?

In the last few years, there has been a lot of talk in getting the younger generation in to politics.

But who are these young ones from Youngistan? These are those chosen and privileged ones who are from one or the other political influential family.There are about 90 such MPs in the Parliament. To give an example, look at few of the Younger ones

Rahul Gandhi (Rajeev Gandhi)-Sachin Pilot(Rajesh Pilot)-Sandeep Dixit(Shiela Dixit)-Jyotiraditya Scindia (Madhavrao Scindia)-Suhasini Sule(S Pawar)-Jatin Prasad(J P rasad)-Omar Abdulla(Farooq (Abdulla)-Akhlesh Yaday(Mulayam singh)-Agatha Sangma (P A Sangma)-Kanzimori(Karunanidhi)-Varun Gandhi(Maneka Gandhi) on and on and on and on. Can we name one single young MP who is not from political family?

Will it be right and fair to expect them to do anything different than their parents did? Their party did? Their party’s (SIC) ideology? e,g

To follow the leader (cong) who himself is one amongst them but more equal than others?

Will Sachin Pilot, Scindia,Sandeep Dixit ever go beyond RG’s instructions?

Do exactly what the party says (cong /non cong)

Will Ajit Singh’s son not like to find a place in cabinet irrespective of ideology?

Will these young ones perform better or will become a part of the sycophancy.

Will Akhilesh Yadav ever make up with Mayawati?

Will Varun Gandhi not follow BJP line?

Will Karuna allow his daughter not to get the best for TN/party than for the country?

How is it heading a political party different than heading a multibillion $ company? It is a high return business where the culprits form the rules.

So what wonders can we expect from the youngistan,if any? Why can’t non political families’ children also be brought into politics?

If these young ones had to perform, get noticed and stand by national interest, they all would have taken a stand on the following issues

Bhopal-Manipur-Caste Census-Inflation-Afzal Guru-Kasab-Foreign Policy-Naxals,-Internal Security-Illegal Immigrants-Governance-Corruption-Accountability,on and on and on. None of them have opened their mouth on these issues yet.

So what has changed---Change is visible. They have switched to Gucci brand suits and shoes and other branded accessories from what their seniors wore as Khadi with Gandhi Topi.

Nothing will change, except, perhaps the volume of black money and of course sycophancy.

There goes a saying.---IF YOU CAN’T NOT CONVINCE-----CONFUSE
During the budget,after the budget and before the budget,the Govt keeps telling us about various schemes,budgetary provisions,subsidies,and political will as to how best will they look after the poor.Which means,the Govt will try and take care of the basic needs of the poor?
For the Govt to help the poor, to disburse the subsidies, implement schemes and show political will, the Govt first must know HOW MANY poor are there in the country.If the figures of poor go wrong-Govt subsidies may be less or more depending upon political priorities leading to mass scale corruption.

Different panels set up by the govt have calculated BPL figures differently.

CONFUSION 1—Wadhwa committee has estimated BPL families at 20 crores.

CONFUSION 2—State Govts put BPL family fig at 10.50 Crores

CONFUSION 3—Tandulkar committee puts BPL figure at 9.50 crores.

CONFUSION 4—World Bank estimate shows that the figure is 7.50 crores

CONFUSION 5—Arjun Sengupta committee shows this figure as 20 crores.

CONFUSION 6—N C Saxena committee puts this figure at 12.50 crores.

CONFUSION 7—Planning Commission puts this figure at 7 crores.

CONFUSION 8—People of India have faith in none of these figures.

PDS system, MSP to farmers, Food grain movement, Amount/quantum of subsidy and the basic right to food to the poor depends on these figures.(THOUSOUNDS OF CRORES OF RS ARE INVOLVED IN THIS EXERCISE—ONE CAN UNDERSTAND THE LEVEL OF CORRUPTION THAT CAN TAKE PLACE)
All the successive Govts which have come to power, have promised the upliftment of the poor, providing food to all and a promise to remove poverty—TO DO SO THE GOVT HAS TO KNOW WHO IS AND HOW MANY POOR ARE THERE IN THE COUNTRY.

Figures above speak a different story and reflect a shoddy picture of Govt’s efficiency.

Indian food, fortunately, is available the world over and most of the countries now realise the importance of Indian traveller and especially the vegetarians.

Talking of Indian food, I was able to locate one Mr & Mrs Fernandez from Goa running a small eatery in MONTE CARLO, serving Aloo, Baingan, Dal and Tandoori chicken.

Who says Indians are not enterprising?

Some of the recent happenings in the Country have been very upsetting. It seems our priorities have gone wrong.

ASHAMED—Mizoram CM reminds ”Politicians in New Delhi” and “People in mainland India” that “Dravidians live in the south, Aryans in the North and Mongolians in the North East”(this coming from an elected CM of a state of India)

ASHAMED—782 Million Indians will be living under less than $2 a day by 2015. These are the findings of Joint report by the IMF and WB (Report titled “Global monitoring report 2010”). (And we are dreaming of being a super power.)

ASHAMED—“People have money...They will have to pay more for power if they use more”...Says Sheila Dixit.( She will feel the pinch the day she is made to pay)

ASHAMED—Minister's family can change the AI fly schedules, can divert Flts ,AI can change to larger unscheduled aircraft to accommodate ministers daughter and son in law for their holidays despite AI having posted a loss of Rs 7200 crores(Remember Raj-Rawadas?)

ASHAMED—MCI chief Ketan Desai arrested taking Rs 2 crores bribe. He is alleged to be close to the minister for health and was not in favour of Dr Rammodass(corruption?)

ASHAMED—Phones of politicians have allegedly been tapped.HM says it was not authorised but just happened by National Technical Research Organisation (technology overtakes our governance)

ASHAMED—IPL auction took place in India. The bids were in Dollars, the payments were made in Dollars three years back. What was the RBI waiting for, for three years? Why was CBI , RAW, IB, Intelligence agency, Police,CLB all quiet for three years if everything with IPL was illegal? How that is all the members of IPL governing council go scot free but were there to enjoy the perks of the council?

ASHAMED—Liquor is being stored in FCI warehouse in Jaipur and Punjab but, wheat is kept rotting in the open. Rats are being fed and children are dying of malnutrition.

ASHAMED—Scams, Bribes, Probes, Reports, Judicial enquiry, Dept enquiry. One is sick and tired of listening to these phrases.

During last few months various incidents in the country have made me to come to a conclusion that a lot is happening a lot can happen and a lot just might happen by the various Nexus which have developed in India over a period of time. Only time will tell as to what harm is being done by these nexus, but I will jot down a few nexus at work which seem quite obvious.

NEXUS—between Bollywood and underworld.

NEXUS—between media and politicians.

NEXUS—between water tanker mafia and politicians.

NEXUS—between land mafia and builders.

NEXUS—between industry and politicians.

NEXUS—between police and criminals.

NEXUS—between bureaucracy and ministers.

NEXUS—between sports bodies and betting mafia.

NEXUS—between customs and smugglers.

NEXUS—between narcotic dept and drug paddlers.

NEXUS—between Hawala operators and those with “dirty” money.

NEXUS—between mining community and politicians.
What is left ?The list could be endless.
Fortunately, there seem to be two distinct areas In India which are still visibly clean-

ARMED FORCES
JUDICIARY.

Reportedly, at one time, USSR policies were greatly influenced by various Nexus operating in that country. The end result has not been very good.

GAMES WITHIN GAMES

IT HAPPENS ONLY IN INDIA.

There is no doubt as to why a state Govt and politicians in India look forward to organising an international event (without accountability) with budgets running into thousands of Crores or Rupees.

Commonwealth Games (CWG) are being organised to start in Oct in Delhi.
I won’t go into the total budget and the progress of CWG. Our country’s sports minister had made a non-serious statement that an event of such magnitude is like daughter’s wedding, it goes through any way. Isn’t that a fantastic statement coming from a minister?

However, one must take note of a “minor” expense being debited to the games a/c.

The organising committee of CWG has incurred an expense of Rs 29.29 Lakhs spent on SNACKS during 57 odd meetings they have had. (Games have yet to start)- I REPEAT RS 29.29 LAKHS FOR SNACKS.

How many more meetings will take place and how many more Lakhs of Rs will be spent on SNACKS till Oct, is any ones guess.

This shows oft repeated complaint of complete disconnect;

Between--Govt and those 83 crore people living under Rs 20/day.
Between—Lal batti walas and No batti walas.
Between—elected representatives and the voters.
Between—Masters and subjects.
Between—Millions of tons of wheat rotting and those dying of malnutrition.

Unless we get India educated, we will not succeed as a nation.
The young and educated are the future of India.

Of late a lot is being written and discussed about upgrading the education systems in India by getting foreign universities/ institutions to set up shop in India. It is a very positive development,but wonder if all the aspects of Indian socio-economic have been taken into account.Is the policy being formulated keeping the elite in mind and the big business houses for investment opportunity.

In the ongoing education reforms,there seems no reference to advancing of study loans to students at reasonable and affordable rates of interest. Deserving students/ children of middle class families do get into a situation where lack of funds becomes a major factor, hence the need for bank loans.

Most of the Banks have a category of “education loans”. Prevailing rate of interest for “education loan” is 12-13%. By an estimate, the present disbursed amount under this category is about Rs 30,000 crores to students.

We speak so proudly about India being amongst the youngest countries, and the largest middle class in the world but fail to provide the basic money/means at nominal rates to them for further their education.

Farmers’ loans to the extent of Rs 60,000crorers were waived in the recent budget. Is the establishment waiting for suicides by the students’ fraternity before waking up to reality? Or farmers are more vote material and students aren't?

India is a young country and dreams of being a super power. India needs to worry about its students, their education and MEANS to get that education.

Students need no charity; they need loans at reasonable rates, if not interest free.
Govt need not look at political issues all the time.
It is time to look and speak beyond politics of GDP and Sensex
It is time to ensure MEANS of education for the students.

Most of our male politicians are generally seen wearing WHITE Clothes in public, in the Parliament, during elections. They are even seen driving around in WHITE Ambassador cars.
It is well known that in private life and Farm house parties they wear the best designer clothes, designer watches, designer shoes and drive around in the latest Merc (benami,though) and enjoy the best overseas holidays( at our expense).

Gucci, Versace etc are for them very ordinary possessions.

We,Hindus,wear WHITE Clothes for 13 days,only during an unfortunate period of mourning.

Like cats, politicians have nine lives. We have only one.

Why do politicians wear white all the time?

What message are the politicians sending to all of us?

Are they anticipating bad times ahead?

Technology is driving the modern world. Human beings are being identified by some or the other number. We have a PAN number. We have a mobile number. We will soon have a UID number. We have our ATM PIN number. We have our bank a/c ID number etc;

But, there is one number in India which is enviable!!!!

THE MAGIC NUMBER IS--272—TWO HINDERED SEVENTY TWO.

This number, when achieved, can make one sit in the seat of power of the largest Democracy in the world. This is the number which can make a party or a coalition rule this country of 100 crore + (1 BILLION+) people for five years.

Those who make this number possible, could be, Murderers, Rapists,Dacoits, Black marketers, Hoarders or whatever,they need not be educated, may not be in fit health, as long as they get elected. End is important and not the means.

Once number 272 –the number of MPs-is achieved, ruling party is in majority, is in the driver’s seat and can decide on the important appointments, postings for all those who helped them in their success and those who could be of use in the five years of rule. They can also take various decisions, change the laws, financial decisions, reward state honours, and extend favours, of which the common man, who brought them to power, may never know about.

The country is in the hands of those who have 272.

They can change the destiny of 1 billion people (16% OF WORLD POPULATION) with every decision, action--democratic or otherwise, they take.

So very important is number 272.

Vajpayee lost only by 1 vote as he had 271 and not 272.
In 1984,ruling party got 400+seats and lost in 1989 due to alleged corruption.
That is the value and strength of our vote.

We, you, me, we all ---are a part of that 16% of world population.

The time available to so many of us is so limited, should we say we are too involved in our own day to day problems/ opportunities that we don’t ask--- WHY--- to so many simple, innocent, unanswered actions/questions. I decided to jot down few of such queries/questions /actions which I think would be better off answered.

Who must answer, I don’t know.

WHY does it take to get a Pizza in 30 minutes but not an Ambulance?

SANDAL ADVENTURE

During a recent visit to Singapore,she bought few pairs of sandals from Bugis’ Jn market.

Price, even after converting to Indian Rs, was almost the same as at Lajpat Nagar in Delhi or Linking Road in Mumbai.

After returning to Delhi, every time she went out, she would carry something in a nice paper bag in her hands. She would keep the paper bag on the back seat of her car and go about her social responsibility. I was never inquisitive to find out about the contents of the bag. I never did.

After almost a month,one evening we had to go to a wedding at a farmhouse near Chattarpur.
As we left the main door, I again saw the same paper bag in her hands.It could not have been a gift for the bride. Unable to avoid the obvious question,I did ask.
The answer and explanation,both, were very convincing and amusing.

That's how it goes---
The sandal I am wearing,from Singapore, is very comfortable and design is very nice.

The sandal I bought from Singapore is cheap,hence there is a chance it may not last long and may break.

Hence, in view of the above two factors,I have been carrying my other normal sandal, as a standby, just in case this one breaks.

Sandal from Singapore has not yet broken and the Indian piece is still in the paper bag travelling in her car.

In case you are curious,just as I was,---I AM TALKING OF MY WIFE'S SANDAL ADVENTURES.

Whereas,I am still converting S$ to Inidan Rs.

In earlier days, few years back, when one fell sick, one would go to the General Physician and the GP would take the following steps to diagnose the problem.

Make the patient lie down on the chamber couch.
With stethoscope in place, check the pulse rate.
Check the eyes.
Feel the liver function by pressing the stomach at three different points.
With the help of a torch light, check the tonsils.
Check the cleanliness of the tongue.
Make the patient bend the knees twice over.

By this time the GP has diagnosed the problem of the patient.
No blood test,No lipid profile,no visit to the path lab.

That is it---the diagnose is over. Now is the time for medication. The GP would prescribe and the compounder will give one bottle of syrup (no name) and 9 doses (pudias) containing tablets of different colours. Compounder would explain the dosage as (peeli goli) yellow tab and (hari goli) green tab morning and evening and all the three including (safed goli) white tab in the afternoon.
If the GP had to prescribe a capsule-the heavens would fall—CAPSULE MEANT SERIOUS DISEASE.
Very rarely was the patient sent to a Chemist to buy medicines.
Very rarely one had to go back for another check up.
TREATMENT OVER AND ONE IS NORMAL BACK TO WORK.

Compare the situation as it is today, Even a sneeze could get you to diagnostic centre and admitted to the ICU till the check up is completed by the specialists.
High BP, Low BP, Joint pains, Cancer, Cervical, Body imbalance, Heart ailment, Liver mal function, Lung function, Dialyses, Diabetes, H1N1 –all these sound almost like the names of some missiles.
There is medical insurance policy.
There are five star hospitals.
There are blood banks where one has to BUY blood.(God gave it free)
Treatments in the hospitals are a package deal.
Before the start of treatment, tests are required from Path lab,
In special cases there is CT scan, MRI, and Ultrasound etc.
Heart surgery, joint replacements, liver transplant and surgery per se has become so common that it has become part of one’s life.
Did these diseases exist, say 20 yrs back?
How would one explain this sudden switch over?
Is it technology?
Is it awareness of healthier life?
Is it due to better health infrastructure?
Is it due to work stress?
Is it something to do with extra disposable income?

YES, TINA- THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE.
Unfortunately, the present coalition Govt has started to believe that they are in power due to popular vote. Unfortunately it is not true. General feeling is that it is just the absence of a strong and credible opposition which has helped Congress alliance to come to power in some States and the Centre.
A series of wins has made congress coalition a bit over confident and a bit conceited.
It was on the 19th Dec, in a programme called MUQUABLA on a TV channel. (I can’t recall the subject, please) Congress spokes person Mr Manish Tiwari was there too besides others from other political parties. After a while, Tiwari’s body language spoke enough of his discomfort towards the questions. He chose(smilingly) the easy route by saying that if Congress was not performing, they would not have been voted to power second and third time over.
MR TIWARI, THAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH YOUR THINKING.
CONCEITED.

On the 13th Jan, there was another programme on IBN7.It was Mr Tariq Anwar of NCP on the programme besides spokes persons of other political parties. While discussing sugar prices, Anwar wasn’t quite comfortable and said(smilingly) exactly what Tiwari had said on the earlier programme i.e. if people were unhappy with handling of the situation, they would not have voted them back to power twice/thrice over.
MR TARRIQ ,THAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH YOUR THINKING
CONCEITED.
We are obviously a helpless lot of people who are waiting for the apple to fall.
The base of any strong democracy is a strong ruling party at the centre and a strong opposition party. It is now for BJP to analyse and understand the damage they are doing to the nation by being a passive opposition party. It is time for them to pull up their socks.
The main issues concerning the aam aadmi, like inflation, security, farmer suicides, corruption, poverty and so many more have gone unchecked because BJP is not active.
It is time to take corrective measures before Conceit takes a further step.

TINA FACTOR is the worst situation which the country is facing miserably.

Whatever one may say, in any form the media may project but the reality is that Indians have become envy of the world because of our hard work and intelligence, our democracy and our strengthening economy.Unfortunately,a section of the Indian print media did not support our students/drivers in Australia.

Indian students are being discriminated against in Australia.
But, what is happening back home must also be looked at.

Majority of the taxi drivers in Australia are Indians/students.
Majority of the taxi drivers in Mumbai are (north) Indians.

Indian taxi drivers are being discriminated against in Australia.
Indian (NORTH) taxi drivers are being discriminated against in Mumbai.

To get taxi driving licence in Australia, one has to know driving and English language.
To get a taxi driving licence in Mumbai, one has to know driving and Marathi language.

When our citizens are discriminated against in Australia, our Ministers make strong statements.
When our taxi drivers get discriminated against in Mumbai, no strong statement comes forth.

When our citizens are discriminated against in Australia, Govt summons the Indian High Commissioner.
When our citizens are discriminated against in Mumbai, the Govt does not summon the Chief Minister.

It is no time to set regional aspirations in India. It is time to defeat the forces which practice divisive formula.Politicians are too clever and may not hesitate to use these aspirations against the common man.
Let us not forget that those in Australia who cover Indian media must be laughing at us for what is happening in Mumbai,and we complain about Australians.

NOW-We are still being ruled even though we have elected representatives.

THEN –We became a nation comprising of so many states
NOW-We are busy breaking and creating new states.

THEN-We were following the IPC and CrPc of the year 1861.

THEN-Those in power had high security and cut off from common man.

Ruchika Gerhotra case has bought a very serious issue up front---Medals for the Police officers.

We might be able to understand the issue better if it is made clear whether—

-the Police is a force or a Service?

As things and law stands, Police dept reports to the State Govt and the Chief Minister is the authority on postings and transfers---that is where the mess and muck starts to collect and stink. This is the stage where the Police and Politician nexus comes into play. Police is being used by the state Govt as personal force and settle personal score. Police and Politicians nexus helps each other in alleged corruption, illegal activities, and fund collection---and both become millionaires.

Politicians do not need medals-Police does.

The state Govt in power recommends various medals for the favourite police officers and in most of the cases; police officer does get the medals after which he is said to be A DECORATED OFFICER.

Stripping a corrupt, tainted, convicted officer of his medals is setting a precedent.

This is an excellent decision by the Govt----good job but raises a related issue.

Out 543 MPs in current Parliament, it is reported that about 190 MPs have a criminal, tainted record/background.

INNOCENT TILL PROVED GUILTY IS A JOKE.

If there are laws of discrediting the police and stripping them off their medals, should there not be laws in place for the convicted or tainted Politicians?

Why are the politicians above the law?

Why should it take years to frame charges against any politician or police officer, be it criminal or disproportionate assets case?

Why should the rules be framed by the corrupt and tainted in Parliament?

Why should those corrupt politicians and Bureaucrats who connive and recommend medals for the convicted police officers not be discredited too and banned from public life for life?

How and why are the tainted- corrupt politicians or police officers allowed to escape the law?

Why is the conviction rate amongst the politicians or police officers so low?

How can one explain so many retired Police officers favourites as State Governors?

Why are police reforms not being implemented despite SC intervention?

A TYPICAL DAY.

It was again Monday,the laziest day of the week.

Pappu got up as usual in the morning and was happy that there was water in the tap. Excited, he told his wife the good news of water but realised, there wasn’t electricity, so he had a cold water bath.
Pappu read the morning news about aviation sector having sacked staff .Worried he was, there was fear of prospective sacking in the BPO sector also. Whilst leaving for work, Pappu tried to explain to his wife on the slowdown in the US economy and the consequences for Indian BPOs. Most unconcerned, she reminded him to get ALOO and SHIMLA MIRCH from the weekly market in the evening (Rs 21/ and Rs 69/kg)

Pappu drove his scooter very carefully on the left side avoiding all the pot holes and the under construction metro flyover as yesterday one collapsed crushing bus and few cars(they say some people died and the contractor was fined).As a consequence of driving slow, Pappu reached late to work. He was told, HR is holding a meeting with the management to decide on the fate of the excess staff till the Govt does not agree to a bail out package(nice word for blackmail). He held his breath (was worried about ALOO and SHIMAL MIRCHI) till he was told he was in safe zone due to intervention of the Govt as in case of aviation staff .Confidentially, Pappu came to know confidentially that they actually got saved as it was MD's daughter's birthday and he was in good mood.(they dined at the TAJ and signed the credit card worth Rs17129..austerity, you see) Pappu called home to say he will leave in time...he normally uses office landline as incoming on his wife's mobile is free. In case of emergency, she gives him a missed call. On his way back, he stopped at the weekly market to buy ALLO and SHIMLA MIRCHI but price had risen to Rs 27/ and Rs 74/kg respectively.(sharad pawar says it is because of global warming-he must be awarded on 26^th Jan) Keeping his budget in mind, he bought lesser qty to compensate for the price rise.

On reaching home, while listening to TV news he was happy, there was electricity, petrol prices were not raised, gas still has subsidy, Rs strengthened by 1.5 paisa against Dollar, there wasn’t any bomb blast the whole day, Govt assured they will not tolerate any terror attacks, there wasn’t any breaking news that inflation had gone up any further, Parliament worked the lowest number of days this year in history..hence less violence in the Parliament, there was no threat to the Govt from any partner, sensex was above 15000 level,there was assurance from Finance Minister that economy is in good shape except growth will be slow,banks are safe so are deposits, there is hope that BPOs also may be considered for a bailout package
.Pappu was very relaxed till his wife questioned him of the prices of ALOO and SHIMLA MIRCHI.He tried explaining her of the meaning of all the assurances the Govt has given on the TV. She was quite upset that a popular SAS BAHU serial is going off air after 8 years , and the Govt hasn’t yet appointed an commission of enquiry. Pappu was about to retire for the day and looking forward to another good and safe day tomorrow and Pappu's wife was in her own thoughts, contend with small happy moments with BALIKA BADHU....

we are all busy with our own day to day middle class problems...till some candidates come asking for votes without even telling us as to was the fate of last election promises.

We still don’t know the power of our vote.They don't care

Whenever an unfortunate incident like that of Ruchika takes place, statements from the Govt, from various political parties and from those who have a lot of free time suddenly find space in the media. Then there are those who want to be noticed and we suddenly see them going on candle lighting spree. Candles are lit for only one day-- then forgotten--when unfortunate incidents like;

Arushi--Ruchika—Priyadarshani Matto--Shivani Bhatnagar--26/11—Jessica lall--Uphaar--Manu bail – Parliament attack—etc, takes place.

In this process we seem to forget the main issue,which is not Rathore, - not Manu, -not Kasab, - not Parliament attack, - not 26/11, - not Koda, -not Satyam; it is the very basis of functional democracy.

In my opinion, if we need to light candles, let us do firmly to remove the CAUSE of the problem. Let all well meaning citizens, civil society light PERMANENT candles at Gateway-Jantar Mantar-Charminar and involve the electronic media in the effort.

Let us light candle to ensure Government is made ACCOUNTABLE

Let us light candles to insist upon GOOD GOVERNANCE.

Light candles to ensure likes of AFZAL GURU are hanged without being used as political tools.

Let us light candle to discourage MINORITY APPEASEMENT.

Let us light candle to remove CORRUPT POLITICIAN, to stop POLITICAL CORRUPTION.

Let us light candles to fight BLACK MARKETING—HOARDING---INFLATION.

Let us light candle to remove corrupt BUREAUCRATS.

Let us light candle for implementation of POLICE —JUDICIAL—ELECTORAL REFORMS.

Let us light candles to fight POLITICIAN-BUREAUCRAT and MEDIA-INDUSTRY NEXUS.

Let us light candles for beefing up of INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SECURITY.

Let us light candles to provide better equipment to ARMED FORCES and POLICE.

Let us light candle to stop scams like KODA-SATYAM-RICE-SUGAR-TELECOM-BULLET PROOF VEST.

NOW IS THE TIME TO REMOVE THE CAUSE .NOW IS THE TIME FOR RUTHLESS SURGERY.

Unless we do so and highlight this through the media, there will continue to be more Arushi,-- more Ruchika, --more Jessica,- -more Shivani--more Priyadarshani--more Parliament attacks,-- more 26/11,-- more Uphaar,-- more rapes,-- more murders,- -more Kodas,- -more Satyams,-- more telecom scams,- -more Dinakarans, endless, endless, endless.............

Unless the root cause is eliminated, cancer of political interference, -- political corruption, - -political indifference, -- political insensitivity, - -political opportunism, --political patronage to goondas, -- political corruption, political patronage to black marketers, will remain and perhaps increase.

Let us stop lighting candles; we may just run out of wax stocks because of frequency of such shameful incidents.

IT HAPPENS ONLY IN INDIA

PAPPU, the common man was sitting besides his hut, watching the flood waters wash away his belongings. He looked towards the sky and saw a helicopter; Mantriji was on an aerial survey of the area...and soon flew back. Only a couple of months ago, PAPPU was sitting here and looking at the sky and praying for some rain for his fields and the drinking water needs of the village( it was floods now it is dry)

From a passerby, PAPPU enquired if he knew anything about the person who flew over the area. He was told that the person was a VIP and tried to explain to him what a VIP;

VIP is a person who comes to you as PAPPU for your votes before elections and promises you Roads, Electricity, Water, Schools, Hospitals, Jobs etc and we decide to trust him and send him to the Parliament to represent the constituency. Pressures at the Parliament, gives him the status of VIP, which entitles him Free furnished housing ,Free electricity, Free water, Free telephone, Free car, Petrol, Driver etc but he is very concerned about your welfare, hence ex chequer gives him Rs2 crores per year to look after his constituency., this is besides his salary, Free air travel, free train travel, and free medical attendance and not to forget security as now he suffers from a report called "threat perception". All this is only for you, because, if he is not comfortable he will not be able to look after his constituency.

PAPPU was surprised and said but all that you have mentioned above is what he promised me/us before we cast our vote and sent him to Parliament... I was promised Roads School, Hospital, Electricity, job, housing and a lots more.

He was a Pappu, because you/we trusted him, he is now a VIP and we are all PAPPUs.

He has everything he promised you...and you are looking towards the sky.

Rain, Mantriji, or Helicopter? Only a VIP can tell you.?

In 62 yrs we have created only VIPs.

We have a peculiar democracy and bureaucrats , a combo parting gift from the British.

A party is voted to power and historically it makes them or shall we say law makes them unaccountable to those who voted them to power. (It is a match played once in 5 years)

Bureaucrats are trained so as to help ruling party to Govern .Conveniently; they make such complicated laws which make them and the politicians unaccountable to the people.

As in colonial days, all that is expected of us is to pay taxes-follow the rules framed by them-ask no questions.

WHERE IS GOVERNANCE?

WHO IN THE GOVT IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR SOME OF THE FOLLOWING LAPSES/MESS/CARELESSNESS??

Chinese scream /shout from across the border and we stop construction of roads on our side in Ladakh. Chinese even justify the act and we remain silent spectators.

Delhi Municipal Corp allegedly has 22830 fake employees. Their salary of Rs 204 crores is being debited annually.There is no comment from either the opposition or the ruling party.

There is no water and electricity—only for the common man –even after 62 years.

Madu Koda siphons off Rs 4000 croes. Is it possible without connivance of those in power?

How often have we heard such statements? Have we ever seen or read or heard the result ever of the problem?

Inflation is a major issue facing the common man today. With the kind of (in) actions this Govt is taking are most repulsive.

Govt seems to be warning us that we have made a mistake by voting them into power second/third time over. Sure, in such case we deserve the punishment we are being given.

We have Dr Manmohan Singh as the PM, a distinguished economist.

We have Montek Singh Ahluwalia, an economist, as the Chairman of planning commission.

We have Chawla as the finance Secy,

We have Dr Rangarajan, a financial genius, as an advisor besides various other economists in and around the PMs office and Finance ministry and in each state.

We have sent some of the best economists to IMF.

We have sent some of the best economists to the World Bank.

So, why is controlling inflation not on Govt’s agenda?

The biggest shocker came on Sat the 5 th.

Govt has increased the VAT (value added tax) on 170 items under different “heads” resulting into increase in prices of over 400 food items which include edible oil, pulses and other food items. Common man is already under stress due to 17% inflation on food items including daily vegetables.

There are very pressing issues for the Govt including, security, global warming, terror and also inflation. If the Govt is able to find time to attend to other problems---why is it avoiding priority on inflation?

Are some elements in the Govt in connivance with hoarders and black marketers?

Is the Govt taking us for granted as we have no alternative?

Is it a challenge to the electorate?

Should the P M get involved personally in handling this problem?

I am unable to find an answer to my own questions----can you help?

Since media has so much extra time at their disposal, unknowingly they give away information. Try and figure out these complicated figures.

It is about seven months that the present Govt took charge. Ministers have moved into their respective offices. The amount they have spent on renovating their offices may send one in a dizzy. Even the earlier Govt was that of UPA who had spent Rs crores for office renovation. Details of expenditure of all the 78 ministers is not available yet. Some are...

Vilas Rao Deshmukh........Rs 17.54 lakhs on “modernisation”

Anand Sharma.................Rs 14.78 lakhs

Jyotiraditya Scindia.......... Rs 14.98 lakhs.

Jatin Prasad.....................Rs 11..40 lakhs

Kapil Sibal........................Rs 3.23 lakhs on “toilet and office texture painting”

Mukul Wasnik .................Rs 8.22 lakhs on “visitors” room.

Amount spent by other 70 ministers is not yet known, but considering the amount spent by six is bad enough example. It is estimated that total amount spent on renovations could touch Rs 100 crores.

Subject to confirmation, an amount of Rs 120 crores has been spent by the ministers on renovating their houses.

Offices and house renovation at tax payers cost?

Did we hear a few months back about a dirty word called “Austerity”?

Can someone please decode this mystery?

W.e.f Monday, the water charges in Delhi have been raised by two and half times. This at a time when the wage goods are out of reach of the common man.

Irony is that, the day water charges have been increased is the day Govt has announced reduction in the price of ATF(aviation turbine fuel).Rich man’s fuel will cost less and poor man’s water will cost more.

Could the common man have been saved the water burden?

GDP reaches a figure of 7.90 % for quarter ending Sept 09.

So what?

Inflation,food prices, touches 14.35 % highest in the recent years.

Most of us must have read the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper.

Someone has translated it into an India Version (?) Read on;

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN ,TIMES NOW, ZEE, show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.

Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter.

It is almost one year since 26/11.

What India has learnt or otherwise, time will tell and that will be separate subject for a blog post.

Have we as a Nation been sensitive towards those who died for us?

Have we as a Nation been sensitive towards those who are ensuring that another 26/11 is avoided?

The answer seems to a very disturbing, unfortunate and a negative reply.

Post 26/11, The Taj and Trident/Oberoi are being guarded by the State Reserve Police Force.

Jawans , 25 of them, those who are guarding Trident/Oberoi have been living in a van and sleep in the van after 12 hours of duty. They naturally wash their clothes in the van, they cook in the van, and they wash their utensils in the van. Their living situation becomes worst during monsoons due to lack of a ceiling over their head.

Jawans, those who are guarding the Taj Hotel are worse of.

They are using historical Gateway of India as their house. Despite a rush of evening visitors/tourists to the the Gateway, these jawans cook their food, wash their clothes, dry their clothes, wash their utensils on the pavement.(SHAME)

Hemant Karkare lost his life fighting for the country. It is alleged that the bullet proof vest he was wearing was of sub standard quality. The Govt ordered an enquiry and----hold your breath----the file of procurement suddenly is lost.(SHAME)

Hemant Karkare’s wife did not give up. She followed up the case as the Govt still had the defective jacket Karkare wore which was the only substantial piece of evidence.---hold your breath---the jacket has gone missing.(SHAME)

Is that how we are going to honour our heroes who died for us?

Is that how we are going to treat our jawans who are securing us?

Mr Ashok Chavan, CM, is on record to say that the “THE GOVT CAN NOT PROVIDE THESE JAWANS HOUSES” (are we ashamed of such people and statements?)

Mr Ashok Dongre, the Deputy Inspector General of SRPF has this comment to make “THE MATTER WILL BE LOOKED INTO” (are we ashamed of such people and statements?)

Government has no house for the Jawans on duty against terror, but only last week there was a report in a local paper which said----

MEIRA KUMAR, LOK SABHA SPEAKER HAS BEEN ALLOTTED TWO SPRAWLING BUNGALOWS IN DELHI.

GULAM NABI AZAD, HEALTH MINISTER HAS BEEN ALLOTTED TWO SPRAWLING BUNGALOWS IN DELHI.

The only action I could take after writing this post was to stand in silence for one minute.

NON EXISTANT OPPOSITION.

Democracy has the unique advantage in which the electorate takes two decisions. One is to vote in more than 50% to Govern-called ruling party. The other is to vote in a credible party to work as the watch dog-called opposition. If the opposition party does not perform, it can create a very serious problem for the country and democracy. It can make the ruling party undemocratic and insensitive towards the people.

Let us take only Delhi as a case in point.BJP,the main opposition party is invisible. Some of the following actions/decisions/statements by the ruling Congress will prove a point as to how an insensitive Govt can harm the common man.

In the last few months, the Congress Govt has announced the following hard and unpopular decisions, undemocratically, without a word of opposition from BJP (people’s voice is never heard).

DTC bus fares have been increased and only the middle class will suffer-BJP is silent and non existent

Metro rail fares have been increased - BJP is on a heavy dose of sleeping pills.

Fares of feeder bus service to metro stations have been increased-BJP is on a pause mode.

Milk prices have been increased by Rs 2/lt-BJP is busy fighting between themselves.

There is a continuous threat that Delhi Govt is considering withdrawal of subsidy of Rs 40/cylinder on LPG-BJP has no clue as to how to react.

The electricity tariff has been increased by 40%--BJP is ok with us getting electric shocks.

Delhi Jal Board has passed a resolution to increase the rate of water in Delhi-BJP couldn’t careless as they now drink only mineral water.

Manu Sharma was given parole in Sept and was extended by Shiela Dixit despite objection from the Delhi police-BJP,like all of us were not aware because BJP has failed as opposition party.

BJP lost elections in Delhi because the prices of onions had touched Rs 20/kg. Today the prices of vegetables have hit the ceiling and remain unaffordable. Instead of taking on Shiela Dixit, BJP are taking on Reddy Bros of Karnataka.

Butter is not available in the market.Yes plenty is available in black market from the hoarders.

The toll tariff on Delhi-Gurgaon-Delhi has been increased. It is estimated that more than 1.50 lakh vehicles cross every day. Considering an average increase of Rs 2/ vehicle, the extra collection per day has increased by about Rs 3.00 lakhs, which about Rs 11 crores per year. Where is the justification? -BJP remains a silent spectator.

Tariff on Delhi-Noida-Delhi has been increased on similar lines as DGD route. Extra collection per year on this route is about Rs 9 crores. - BJP remained a silent spectator.

Just by sitting on dharna at Jantar Mantar, a walk out in the assembly or a Delhi bandh is not an answer,it is a sign of tired and frustrated opposition, the BJP.

What is stated above is only about Delhi. We can imagine as to what havoc the Govt can play if there are no checks and balances by the opposition for which BJP was voted in

It is essential that nationally also the opposition is strong so that the ruling party performs the jobs they have been voted in.

It is in our national interest to have a strong ruling and the opposition party.

With the condition of the BJP on the National level, we may have to face a very serious situation in the country if the ruling party remains uncheked

Reported official figure of dead as of now is 12 (Hard to believe).

Reportedly about 20000 people have lost their jobs due to spread of fire in the Industrial area.

The Rajasthan High Court has issued notice to Central and State Govts to explain as to what action has been taken to douse the fire.

Final figures of injured, dead, loss, compensations,etc will be known and assessed only after and when the fire is brought under control which is now spread to the ground.

The day the depot caught fire, it was news on most of the TV channels.Naturally.

But breaking news was most interesting......Petroleum minister Deora to go to Jaipur.....Then, Deora on way to Jaipur......Then, Deora reaches Jaipur.

Naturally, one was very impressed with the Govt’s visible concern about fire at IOC and to have deputed Deora to Jaipur.

One was shocked to see petroleum minister Deora’s picture in Sunday HT attending a party in Delhi which HT described as.....

‘’The party took place at the sprawling lawns at the Taj Palace with guests...........about leadership challenges over cocktails and dinner”

“The mood was festive as the delegates relaxed after a day of discussions on global and national issues. The menu featured dishes from across India.”

Did you notice.......Global and National issues------Cocktails and dinner-----Menu from across India?

Jaipur is burning---there are job losses---numbers of people have died---losses running into crores, but petroleum minister is at a cocktails and dinner party at a five star hotel in Delhi.

Should the minister have been supervising the operations at the IOC depot?

Should the minister have been taking care of those injured, at the hospital?

Should the minister have been involved in checking security measures at the IOC depot?

Was the minister a speaker at the summit? I don’t think he was?

Should the minister have been attending the cocktails and dinner party in Delhi at a five star hotel while destruction were taking place in Jaipur?(THREE HUNDRED KMs AWAY)

Were there enough fire tenders at the depot? (Tenders were brought from Mumbai and Delhi)

Why and who allowed the oil depots next to the industrial estate and residential colony?

A lady from Jaipur has filed a complaint of negligence against Deora. Can we have some more brave like Ms Sarika Luhadia please?

When will we have someone to govern rather than rule this country?
